PlaySmart StaySmart was founded by two high school students to prevent the dangerous effects of concussions in children and teens who play sports. The target group of school age children and teens was chosen because the developing brain is particularly vulnerable to concussion and the effects of concussion are more severe and longer lasting in this group. In addition, there are profound deficiencies in the current infrastructure at the school and athletic club level to handle the education, prevention and early detection of concussions of this target group. PlaySmart StaySmart is committed to opening the doors to knowledge, prevention and management of concussions in the school age population. One hundred percent of the proceeds from PlaySmart StaySmart are used to promote these approaches as well as to fund further research in traumatic brain injury.
