David Ash and Charlie Strong

David Ash and Charlie Strong

David Ash has had a history of concussions. In the opening game of the Longhorns’ 2014 season, Ash led his team to a 38-7 victory over North Texas, but he suffered a hit to the middle of his head trying to recover a fumble.

University of Texas Introduces Charlie StrongLater that day, Ash complained to his coach about dizziness and headaches. They both knew what it was immediately: a concussion. Ash has been taking his time to heal and did not play in the 2nd game of the season. Coach Strong said, “Anytime you have a that number of concussions, you have to be concerned. ….We would never jeopardize a young man’s health just for this football team. Player’s health is always first.”

Kudos to David Ash and Coach Strong for having the good judgment to Play Smart to Stay Smart
